Humans Still Evolving

While this doesn’t come as a big surprise, evidence mounts that humans are still evolving.  Enjoy!

Sep 30: Messenger Satellite Orbiting Planet Mercury

Yes, I know I’m remiss in announcing this, but the “Messenger” satellite has finished its flyby’s, and has settled into an orbit around planet Mercury.  The images coming back are excellent.

ALMA Switches On

The ALMA sub-millimeter radio telescope array in Chile is online, and the first test shots are amazing!  Overlaid with images from Hubble, you can now see where stellar formation is taking place in the Antennae Galaxies!

Scientists Table on Wiki

Been working on a table of scientists over at the wiki.  It’s got a bit of a contextual timeline feel to it, which I wasn’t looking for, so I might strip that out and put it on another page.  I’m a huge fan of timelines.  They show context.  Context is good.  The list is just beginning; many many more to add.  If you are wiki-literate, feel free to contribute to the table.  Go check it out:

Symphony of Science

If you have not checked out the most excellent works from John Boswell, Symphony of Science, you should do so post-haste!  It’s free to download (you can choose to donate (and you should feel guilty if you don’t ;) ), all songs are kid-safe, and they teach the goodness of science, and the mysteries of exploration.

Can Neutrinos Move Faster Than The Speed Of Light In A Vacuum?

Interesting results from Europe.  Although they are still validating the numbers, it appears as though neutrinos shot at (detector) from (location) moved 60ns faster than they should have!  There’s about a 10ns margin of error from GPS (maybe on each end?), and it’s possible there’s another lag in the detection hardware itself, but if that’s less than 40ns, then YIKES!

What are some ramifications to this, if it’s true?  Anything useful?  Neutrino capacitors?
